Just a walk from the charming baroque town of Scicli, Baglio della Luce is a striking example of Sicilian rural architecture. Breathtaking settings and panoramic sea views trace the frame of an emotional and comfortable space, defined by high-class design.
Steeped in the scents and greenery of Sicily, Baglio della Luce accommodations are arranged among three buildings that include the original one and two independent guest houses.
Each structure is adorned with refined decorative elements: from the small wall niches to the blue-painted doors and the shutters, every detail evokes delicate marine suggestions.
"My interventions are always guided by the respect for local traditional construction techniques, very often involving the recovery of abandoned ones from the past. Even the furnishings are guided by a poised use of antique and designer pieces, with a preference for Italian Design."
The four-handed work carried out by Arch. Filippo Walcher and Mohd Interior Design Team shapes a unique experience for Baglio's guests. An accurate selection of contemporary furniture meets the authentic research of Sicilian antique: each piece is studied for enhancing the spaces and enriching them in detail, with multiple shapes, sizes and finishes. Natural materials with a typically Mediterranean charm outline a harmonious mosaic of modernity and tradition, expressing an elegant design experience within the marvelous view of our Sicily.
A large living room with a 17th century console, a survivor from the 1693 earthquake, welcomes the guests into the villa. Refined Berber carpets from the 19th century enrich the whole setting, a big Mauritanian rug hosts the Ghost Gervasoni sofa with Linen upholstery. The visual highlight of the dining room is Artist Antonio Ievolella's table, surrounded by the timeless Leggera chairs by Cassina (Giò Ponti). The kitchen is made of masonry and the floor is in original pitchstone from the house. The guestrooms are decorated with elegant writing desks designed by Walcher and with the Eames chairs produced by Vitra, while the beds feature characteristic iron structures and headboards in white lime that recall Scicli churches.
Without a doubt, the garden represents the main strength of Baglio. A broad stone terrace embraces every corner of the house, offering several breathtaking panoramic sea views. The adjacent expanse of the grass field is framed on one side by fruit trees, on the other by flowering shrubs. A sophisticated swimming pool lies at the heart of the area. Outdoor design gives rise to an experience of pure well-being, marked by the highest visual comfort. From the refined Carrara marble table to the Surprising chairs by Fermob, from the lounge area with the Natal Alu sofas by Tribù to the practical teak sunbeds by Ethimo, outdoor spaces soak in pure class and elegance.
