Deep colours, natural materials and discreet technology in the new furniture and lighting collections
“Tech Eden” is the theme of the latest edition of Maison&Objet which has just ended. An anniversary edition that marks 30 years since the birth of the Parisian event dedicated to furniture and décor in which the aim was to encourage a reflection on the coexistence of digital (tech) and nature (eden). In which the first can become a means to introduce the second within the project. This mix of nature and technology could be, according to the authors of the fair, a new key to understanding design. Meanwhile, in Cologne, the IMM fair ended which chose “Connecting Communities” as its theme and expressed the intention of bringing together all the protagonists of design, from architects to companies, from designers to end users. The protagonists of both events were the main brands in the sector who presented their latest projects.
Classicon: Faubourg carpet by Eileen Gray
An essential and harmonious stroke, like a brushstroke, characterizes this carpet which reproduces a gouache created by Eileen Gray in 1920. Classicon rediscovers its graphic power and transforms it into the Faubourg carpet, whose name evokes the Parisian studio of the Irish architect, in rue du Faubourg St. Honoré. Square, it has a natural white background against which two circular strokes and a linear black stroke stand out.
House of Finn Juhl: Hulsø shelf
Designed by Finn Juhl in 1949, the Hulsø shelf was presented by the company on its first participation in Maison&Objet. Thanks to its rounded and organic shape, Hulsø challenges the background role of the classic shelf to conquer the foreground and act not only as a useful support but also as an interesting decorative element.
Thonet: S 32 / S 64 Dark Melange seats
Thonet entrusts Sebastian Herkner with the prestigious task of giving a new chromatic look to the iconic S 32 cantilever and S 64 seats designed by Marcel Breuer. The result is the “Rethinking Classics: S 32 / S 64 Dark Melange” collection in a series of naturally inspired colors that cover both the of the Vienna Straw seat, the wooden frame but also part and the metal part with a matte finish that changes the face of the chair while remaining faithful to the project native to. For the same company, Herkner also designed the refined Chair 118FV chair now with a wider and more comfortable seat!
Magic Circus: Etagere shelving, Empoli lamp, Tabouret stool by Marie-Lise Frey
Magic Circus presented many new products at Maison&Objet, all designed by Parisian Marie-Lise Frey, founder of the company. Among these, one of the most evocative is the Empoli lamp: a colored glass globe suspended from a chain or a metal pin that evokes the lanterns that once illuminated houses. The Etagere shelving unit is very refined and can also be equipped with a desk and mounted either on the wall or in the center of the room, from floor to ceiling. To complete the furnishings, the comfortable Tabouret stool upholstered in characterful fabrics.
Blomus: Iris portable lamp by Sebastian Herkner
As if to evoke the combination of technology and nature proposed by Maison&Objet, Blomus presents the Iris portable lamp by Sebastian Herkner. The theme is the beauty of glass which is proposed here in a sphere that contains small bubbles of oxygen, to evoke an underwater scenario. Combined with high technology that makes it possible to bring this evocative light everywhere.
Pulpo: Boule table lamp by Sebastian Herkner
The same designer created a table lamp for the German brand Pulpo which is inspired, in name and shape, by the game of bowls. The combination of glass and marble makes this project elegant and evocative while appearing essential and discreet.
Ethimo: Tetide and Pangea rugs by Studiopepe and Hortus room diffuser by Luca Nichetto
The outdoors was also the protagonist with interesting innovations that confirm the growing importance of outdoor furniture and accessories. Ethimo presented the Tetide and Pangea carpet collections by Studiopepe characterized by warm colors and textures that intertwine to create dense but discreet geometric patterns. Luca Nichetto signs the Hortus essence diffuser, accompanied by two possible scents with a Mediterranean flavour, to strengthen the link between indoor and outdoor.

The idea is to create a complete collection of outdoor furniture with a timeless style, focusing on rounded shapes, generous cushions and combinations of materials and fabrics that are current and reassuring, suitable for any type of outdoor space.
