The formal roots are those of the 70s from which today’s sofas and armchairs borrow roundness and “over” padding
In the beginning there were projects such as Camaleonda, the sofa designed by Mario Bellini in 1970 and produced by B&B Italia: in those years the style of the upholstery changed radically, evolving towards organic shapes and generous padding. That trend is back today, an expression of a newfound desire for enveloping comfort that abandons the radicalist aesthetic of the 70s in favor of greater formal rigor that sometimes borders on minimalism. Not surprisingly, the same Camaleonda has been re-edited in a very elegant color palette and with new configuration opportunities in line with contemporary needs. This cosiness is taken up and interpreted by numerous important brands: each with its own style has responded to this desire with sofas and armchairs with round and elegant lines, reassuring at the same time, with a meticulous choice of fabrics, proportions and finishing details. Let’s see some of them.
The Vipp655 pouf (on the cover) is a “comfortable sculpture”. This definition perfectly describes its role: it is clearly one more seat and its sculptural forms convey an immediate sensation of comfort and softness. A soft presence that in a discreet and elegant way makes the environment more welcoming and complete. The wedge finish emphasizes the generous softness and introduces a regular geometric pattern that catches the eye.
The design of the Studio sofa intends to pay homage to the aesthetics of the 70s mentioned above. Characterized by organic forms that are repeated, Studio is modular and can take on countless configurations. Fun and elegant at the same time, it is a sofa with great personality but also extremely rigorous in its own way. The armrests can be moved to various positions to give the sofa different configurations depending on the occasion.
Coral is a cloud on which to take refuge, an armchair that literally embraces those who choose it, offering stability and softness at the same time. Armrests and backrest form a single element that surrounds the seat. The proportions are rigorous and well measured and the armchair is ideal if you are looking for a sculptural and reassuring element at the same time. Monolithic and graceful, the armchair is padded with organic polyurethane covered with natural wadding and jute.
Cozy by MDF Italia
The Cozy collection is a precious solution to furnish a familiar or informal context in an impeccable and elegant way. The style is simple but refined, reassuring but never predictable: from the sofa to the armchairs, to the coffee tables, the recurring motif is roundness. The shapes are soft and essential but the configuration possibilities and the chromatic combinations can reserve very interesting style opportunities.
Finally, with the Pacha armchair by Gubi, we return to the 70s: designed in 1975 by Pierre Paulin, it was visionary and unusual at the time. Today Gubi fits it perfectly into the soft design trend, without blaming the passage of time. The organic shape and the relaxed mood hide the great care that Paulin reserved for ergonomics. And it is like sitting on a cloud, soft but at the same time able to support the body and in particular the back in the right way. In combination with the footrest, it offers an experience of total softness and comfort.
